[Event] Fusion Center Seminar
Date & Time: Friday, April 18, 2025, 16:00–18:00
Speaker: Professor Shigetoshi Osano (Emeritus Professor, The University of Tokyo)
Title: “An Experimental Art History Through Neuroscience: From Conception to the Present”

From the undivided era of science and art in Leonardo da Vinci’s time, art and science have maintained a close relationship. With the remarkable progress of neuroscience, new insights can now be derived even in areas where traditional art historical research has struggled. This seminar introduces neurocognitive and eye-tracking experiments related to art appreciation, and discusses the affinity between art and neuroscience.

Professor Osano is an art historian specializing in Renaissance and Baroque painting, particularly the works of Caravaggio, known for his dramatic compositions and intense chiaroscuro. He is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research that bridges art history and neuroscience. During the seminar, he will speak on his approach to “experimental art history.”
